Great Places to Retire Abroad

Great Places to Retire Abroad For Baby Boomers

You've calculated how much it would cost to live in your current home after retirement, and the numbers don't look promising. The prospect of downsizing within the United States is unappealing. Or, maybe, you're tired of the same old surroundings.

Richard Roll and the Baby Boomers Retirement Network allow you to explore another option: moving to a low cost paradise overseas. There are numerous financial and cultural benefits when you take a look at all the great places to retire abroad.

With the fall in values of homes in the United States and people having lost a lot of money in their stock portfolios, the option of retiring abroad is attractive in terms of cost and lifestyle. Richard Roll, the C.E.O. of the Baby Boomers Retirement Network, and Bruce Reznik, an expert on great places to retire abroad in Southeast Asia, discuss the pros and cons of overseas retirement in a short interview.

Bruce recommends five countries in Southeast Asia that are great places to retire abroad: Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines. The benefits of living in each country vary. For example, Vietnam has a greater economy, which allows for people to have accommodations more similar to what they have in the United States. Places such as Cambodia have more traditional lifestyles, but also allow for a lower cost of living.

Factors to Consider: 1. A lower cost of living 2. Improved weather conditions 3. A chance to experience another culture

There are considerable financial benefits to retiring abroad, and more specifically, to retiring in Southeast Asia. For instance, while living in Southeast Asia, it is still possible to receive social security checks. In his interview with Bruce, Richard Roll sums this up nicely: "What I mean is that you can live overseas, and you can receive a Social Security check. That's one of the strong positives in terms of living in a lower cost place such as Southeast Asia."

The weather in Southeast Asia can also be a plus. Although there are generally only two seasons, a wet season and a dry season, the weather is generally warmer. "I can tell you that anybody who hates winter would be attracted to Southeast Asia because of the heat,"says Bruce.

Another benefit to retiring anywhere abroad is the chance to experience another culture. Bruce's description of Battambang, Cambodia in his interview with Richard Roll, paints a clear picture of a rich cultural experience you can enjoy in Southeast Asia:

Richard: Bruce, in a discussion we had, you talked about Battambang having how many Buddhists temples?

Bruce: About 15 beautiful golden gleaming temples.

Richard: And monks constantly circulating around, Buddhist monks.

Bruce: In beautiful bright orange robes often swirling a light brown or orange umbrellas above their heads. Many people in Southeast Asia try not to let the sun affect their natural skin color too much.

Although retirement abroad can allow for exciting cultural experiences, some Baby Boomers have questions about whether or not retirees from the United States will be well-received.

Bruce says," I have been to 67 countries in all and in basically all the countries people have a very deep level of appreciation and adoration for the United States."

Although retirement in Southeast Asia is not for everyone, Bruce Reznik's experience as a retiree there reveals many of the benefits that you can experience when moving to a low-cost paradise.

There are numerous great places to retire abroad, and The Baby Boomers Retirement Network has the resources and the expert advice to help you find a low cost paradise to suit your interests and needs.

The Baby Boomers Retirement Network (BBRN) is dedicated to getting Baby Boomers started in planning a successful and satisfying future.

When the majority of Baby Boomers had yet to consider retirement, Richard Roll had already published a best-selling retirement financial advice book called "The Best Years Book," with Hugh Downs. The New York Times deemed him "The world's youngest expert on planning for retirement," nearly thirty years ago.

Additionally, he published another popular book on financial advice, "Getting Yours," which was raved about by Barron's (who said it "breaks new ground,") and was featured on the cover of Glamour Magazine.

His advice as a consumer advocate has been quoted in USA Today, The New York Times, Newsweek, Business Week, MarketWatch, Glamour, Associated Press, Consumer Reports, Money, and thousands of other newspapers and magazines. In the mid-90's, Richard provided his expert financial advice and testimony to Congress and blew the lid off a huge cover-up of mortgage overcharging.

Now, he's continuing his career as an influential advisor and personal finance guru by helping to prepare Baby Boomers for the next phase of their life. (For more ideas about how to plan retirement go to: (http://www.mybbrn.com/great_places_to_retire/great_places_to_retire_articles.php)

As a fellow Boomer, Richard Roll has seen it all. He's experienced the joys of parenthood as the father of twin 8-year-olds. He's also felt the pain and anxiety of the challenges in coping with aging parents, who lived 2,000 miles from his home, and have since passed away.

"I've been in training for this moment that's upon us for over three decades," said Richard, "This unique background makes me the most perfectly suited adviser and coach you'd ever want riding shotgun along with you to help you navigate the unknowns and opportunities that lie ahead for us Boomers."

Richard founded the Baby Boomers Retirement Network (BBRN) in 2006, and has since provided thousands of boomers with a stream of exclusive, hand-picked services, advice, and "use-today" travel, lifestyle, health, and financial benefits to give Baby Boomers a greater sense of control and well-being.
